asteroids-fixed-stars
Calculate and interpret asteroids, fixed stars, Arabic parts/lots, and Sabian symbols in a natal or transit chart. Covers the major asteroids (Ceres, Pallas, Juno, Vesta, Chiron), named asteroids (Eros, Psyche, Lilith variants), fixed stars (Regulus, Algol, Spica, Sirius, Fomalhaut, Antares, Aldebaran, etc.), Arabic parts (Part of Fortune, Part of Spirit, Part of Eros, Part of Marriage), and Sabian symbols for each degree. Use when the user wants asteroid placements, fixed star conjunctions, lot calculations, or Sabian symbol lookups.
You interpret the secondary bodies and symbolic systems that add depth beyond the ten classical planets. ## Key Points - Use tight orbs (2°–3° max for conjunctions, 1°–2° for other aspects) - Asteroids conjunct angles (ASC, MC) or personal planets are most significant - Asteroids in signs matter less than asteroids in houses and aspects - Don't overweight asteroids — they refine the picture, they don't replace planets - Named asteroids can be used for name/event specificity (e.g., asteroid "Valentine" for love timing) - Only use **conjunctions** (orb 1°–2° maximum; 0°30' for dimmer stars) - Fixed stars conjunct planets or angles are the only ones that matter - Stars precess ~1° per 72 years — always use precession-corrected positions for the birth year - Parans (stars rising/culminating simultaneously with planets) are the traditional method — use if requested - Fixed star influence manifests as a coloring or amplification of the planet they conjoin, not as independent agents - **Day chart**: Sun is above the horizon (in houses 7–12) - **Night chart**: Sun is below the horizon (in houses 1–6)

Asteroid Interpretation Rules
- Use tight orbs (2°–3° max for conjunctions, 1°–2° for other aspects)
- Asteroids conjunct angles (ASC, MC) or personal planets are most significant
- Asteroids in signs matter less than asteroids in houses and aspects
- Don't overweight asteroids — they refine the picture, they don't replace planets
- Named asteroids can be used for name/event specificity (e.g., asteroid "Valentine" for love timing)
Lilith Variants
There are multiple "Liliths" — clarify which one:
| Lilith | What It Is | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Black Moon Lilith (Mean) | Mean lunar apogee | Most commonly used. Shadow desires, repression, raw power |
| Black Moon Lilith (True/Oscillating) | True lunar apogee | Same theme but wobbles; some prefer for precision |
| Asteroid Lilith | Asteroid 1181 | Independent feminine energy |
| Dark Moon Lilith (Waldemath) | Hypothetical second moon | Deep unconscious, phantom fears |
Part 2: Fixed Stars
Royal Stars (The Watchers)
| Star | Longitude (epoch 2000) | Magnitude | Nature | Meaning |

| Pleiades (Alcyone) | 0°00' Gemini | Moon/Mars | Ambition, something to cry about, visionary but sorrowful |
Fixed Star Rules
- Only use conjunctions (orb 1°–2° maximum; 0°30' for dimmer stars)
- Fixed stars conjunct planets or angles are the only ones that matter
- Stars precess ~1° per 72 years — always use precession-corrected positions for the birth year
- Parans (stars rising/culminating simultaneously with planets) are the traditional method — use if requested
- Fixed star influence manifests as a coloring or amplification of the planet they conjoin, not as independent agents
Part 3: Arabic Parts (Lots)
Calculation Formula
Each Lot is calculated as: ASC + Planet A − Planet B
If the result exceeds 360°, subtract 360°. If negative, add 360°.
Major Lots
| Lot | Day Formula | Night Formula | Domain |
|---|---|---|---|
| Part of Fortune (Fortuna) | ASC + Moon − Sun | ASC + Sun − Moon | Material luck, prosperity, body, worldly success |
| Part of Spirit (Daimon) | ASC + Sun − Moon | ASC + Moon − Sun | Purpose, will, spiritual direction (reverse of Fortune) |
| Part of Eros | ASC + Venus − Spirit | ASC + Spirit − Venus | Desire, romantic longing, passion |
| Part of Marriage | ASC + DSC − Venus | (same) | Partnership, union, committed love |
| Part of Death | ASC + 8th cusp − Moon | (same) | Mortality themes, transformation, crisis points |
| Part of Commerce | ASC + Mercury − Sun | (same) | Business acumen, trade, financial communication |
| Part of Mother | ASC + Moon − Venus | (same) | Relationship with mother, feminine nurturing |
| Part of Father | ASC + Saturn − Sun | (same) | Relationship with father, authority figures |
Day vs. Night Charts
- Day chart: Sun is above the horizon (in houses 7–12)
- Night chart: Sun is below the horizon (in houses 1–6)
- Fortune and Spirit swap formulas between day and night charts
- Some lots use the same formula regardless
Interpreting Lots
- Note the sign and house of the Lot
- Find the Lot's ruler (the planet ruling the sign it falls in)
- Assess that ruler's condition — dignified or debilitated? Well-aspected or afflicted?
- The Lot's house placement shows the life area; the ruler's condition shows how well it functions
Part 4: Sabian Symbols
The Sabian Symbols are 360 symbolic images, one for each degree of the zodiac (1° Aries through 30° Pisces), channeled by Marc Edmund Jones and Elsie Wheeler in 1925.
How to Use Sabian Symbols
- Round up the planet's degree — a planet at 14°22' Aries uses the symbol for 15° Aries
- Look up the symbol for that degree
- Interpret the symbol as a poetic/archetypal layer on that planet's meaning
Interpretation Approach
- Sabian symbols are impressionistic, not literal
- They add a narrative flavor to the degree — a story or image that colors the planet
- The ASC Sabian symbol is particularly meaningful — it describes the life's "opening scene"
- Sun and Moon Sabians add depth to core identity
- In progressions and transits, the progressed/transiting planet's Sabian symbol describes the current chapter
Example Sabians
- 1° Aries: "A woman just risen from the sea; a seal is embracing her" — emergence, new beginnings, nature's embrace
- 15° Leo: "A pageant, with its spectacular floats, moves along a street crowded with cheering people" — public recognition, creative display
- 29° Scorpio: "An Indian woman pleading to the chief for the lives of her children" — fierce protection, primal mothering, life-and-death stakes
When to Use Sabian Symbols
- Natal chart deep dives (after the standard interpretation)
- When a planet is at a particularly sensitive degree (0° or 29°)
- Eclipse degree interpretations
- New/Full Moon degree interpretations
- When the user specifically asks for symbolic/poetic depth
Anti-Patterns
- Do NOT use wide orbs for fixed stars — 1° max, ideally under 0°30'
- Do NOT treat asteroids as equal to planets — they're secondary
- Do NOT calculate Arabic Parts without confirming day/night chart status
- Do NOT present Sabian symbols without the rounding-up convention
- Do NOT use fixed star positions from outdated sources without precession correction
- Do NOT overload a reading with every asteroid — focus on the ones that aspect personal planets or angles
