## Key Points

- **Born at New Moon**: Subjective, instinctive, project-oriented
- **Born at Full Moon**: Objective, relationship-focused, aware of others
- **Born at First Quarter**: Action-oriented, crisis-driven growth
- **Born at Balsamic**: Old soul, completionist, releasing past patterns
- Actions taken tend not to produce their intended result
- "Nothing will come of the matter"
- Decisions made may not stick
- Good for: routine tasks, rest, meditation, journaling, mundane maintenance
- Bad for: starting anything new, signing contracts, launching projects, important meetings
- **Moon VOC in Cancer, Taurus, Sagittarius, or Pisces** — the Moon is strong enough in these signs that VOC effects are mitigated
- This is debated — note it as a traditional exception, not a firm rule
- **Solar eclipses** (New Moon): new beginnings in that house, lasting ~6 months

Lunar Phase Calendar Format

April 2026 Moon Phases:
Apr 2 New Moon at 12° Aries — seed new personal initiatives
Apr 9 First Quarter at 19° Cancer — action in home/family matters
Apr 16 Full Moon at 26° Libra — relationship culmination
Apr 24 Last Quarter at 4° Aquarius — release outdated social patterns

Natal Moon Phase

The Moon phase at birth reveals a person's life approach:

  • Born at New Moon: Subjective, instinctive, project-oriented
  • Born at Full Moon: Objective, relationship-focused, aware of others
  • Born at First Quarter: Action-oriented, crisis-driven growth
  • Born at Balsamic: Old soul, completionist, releasing past patterns

Void-of-Course Moon

The Moon is void-of-course (VOC) from the moment it makes its last major aspect (conjunction, sextile, square, trine, opposition) until it enters the next sign.

Duration

VOC periods vary from minutes to over 24 hours. The average is several hours.

What VOC Means

During a VOC Moon:

  • Actions taken tend not to produce their intended result
  • "Nothing will come of the matter"
  • Decisions made may not stick
  • Good for: routine tasks, rest, meditation, journaling, mundane maintenance
  • Bad for: starting anything new, signing contracts, launching projects, important meetings

VOC Table Format

April 2026 Void-of-Course Moon:
  Apr 1 Moon VOC 3:22 PM – 5:47 PM (2h 25m) — Moon enters Aries
  Apr 3 Moon VOC 11:08 AM – Apr 4 1:33 AM (14h 25m) — Moon enters Taurus
  Apr 6 Moon VOC 8:15 PM – 9:02 PM (47m) — Moon enters Gemini
  [etc.]

VOC Moon Exceptions

Some traditional astrologers note that the VOC Moon in certain signs still "performs":

  • Moon VOC in Cancer, Taurus, Sagittarius, or Pisces — the Moon is strong enough in these signs that VOC effects are mitigated
  • This is debated — note it as a traditional exception, not a firm rule

Moon Sign Transits

The Moon changes signs approximately every 2.5 days, cycling through all 12 signs in ~27.3 days.

Eclipses in Natal Chart Houses

Eclipses are turbocharged New Moons (solar eclipse) or Full Moons (lunar eclipse) that activate fate-like events.

How to Interpret Eclipses in Houses

Note which natal house the eclipse degree falls in:

Eclipse in HouseThemes Activated
1stPersonal reinvention, body, identity shifts
2ndIncome changes, values reassessment, self-worth
3rdCommunication shifts, sibling matters, local moves, new learning
4thHome changes, family events, emotional foundation shifts
5thRomance, creativity, children, pregnancy, self-expression
6thHealth changes, job changes, daily routine overhaul
7thPartnership beginnings/endings, marriage, significant other events
8thFinancial mergers/splits, transformation, inheritance, psychological shifts
9thTravel, education, publishing, legal matters, belief system shifts
10thCareer shifts, public reputation, authority, achievement
11thFriendship changes, group affiliations, goals and aspirations
12thEndings, spiritual awakening, hidden matters surfacing, solitude

Eclipse Activation Rules

  • Solar eclipses (New Moon): new beginnings in that house, lasting ~6 months
  • Lunar eclipses (Full Moon): endings/culminations in that house, lasting ~3 months
  • Eclipses conjunct natal planets (within 3°) are personally significant
  • The eclipse degree remains sensitive — transiting planets crossing it re-activate the eclipse themes
  • Eclipse effects can manifest within 1 month before to 6 months after

Eclipse Families (Saros Cycles)

Each eclipse belongs to a Saros series that repeats every 18 years + 11 days. The themes of a Saros series carry forward.

Lunar Gardening Calendar

Traditional planting and harvesting by Moon phase and sign.

Moon Phase Rules for Gardening

PhaseGardening Activity
New Moon → First Quarter (waxing crescent)Plant above-ground leafy crops (lettuce, spinach, cabbage)
First Quarter → Full Moon (waxing gibbous)Plant above-ground fruiting crops (tomatoes, peppers, beans)
Full Moon → Last Quarter (waning gibbous)Plant root crops (carrots, beets, potatoes) and bulbs
Last Quarter → New Moon (balsamic)No planting. Weed, prune, cultivate, compost, rest the soil

Moon Sign Rules for Gardening

Fertile signs (best for planting): Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces, Taurus, Libra, Capricorn Barren signs (best for weeding/cultivating): Aries, Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Sagittarius, Aquarius

SignGardening Notes
CancerMost fertile sign. Excellent for all planting, especially leafy greens
ScorpioVery fertile. Good for transplanting and planting root crops
PiscesFertile. Good for planting, especially flowers
TaurusProductive. Root crops, potatoes, and leafy greens
LibraSemi-fertile. Flowers, beauty crops, herbs
CapricornProductive. Root crops, trees, anything requiring longevity
AriesBarren. Cultivate, destroy weeds, harvest
GeminiBarren. Harvest, cultivate, mow to retard growth
LeoMost barren. Weed, cultivate, harvest grain
VirgoBarren. Cultivate, but some traditions allow flower planting
SagittariusBarren. Plant onions, harvest, cultivate
AquariusBarren. Weed, destroy pests, harvest

Combined Calendar Format

April 2026 Lunar Gardening Calendar:
Apr 2-5 New Moon in Aries → cultivate soil, no planting
Apr 5-7 Waxing Moon in Taurus → plant root crops and leafy greens
Apr 7-9 Waxing Moon in Gemini → harvest, cultivate
Apr 9-12 First Quarter in Cancer → plant fruiting crops (excellent)
  [etc.]

Anti-Patterns

  • Do NOT ignore VOC Moon periods when planning — they're the most practical tool in lunar astrology
  • Do NOT treat eclipse effects as instant — they unfold over months
  • Do NOT oversimplify Moon phases to just "waxing = good, waning = bad" — waning is perfect for release, endings, and reduction
  • Do NOT confuse the synodic cycle (29.5 days, New to New) with the sidereal cycle (27.3 days, sign to sign)
  • Do NOT present lunar gardening as pure superstition — it correlates with traditional agricultural practices worldwide
  • Do NOT skip the eclipse-natal overlay — an eclipse's house placement is essential for personal interpretation
